The Intermediate Racer is the perfect first boat for any sailor who has any intention of competing on the race course. The Optiparts "Quick" Silver rig is a true racing rig, complete with pin and plug mast head and a hook-in block.

Durability. McLaughlin sailboats, especially our Optimists, have a reputation for durability that is unsurpassed. Practical Sailor rated our Optimist #1 in a study that included more than 15 different builders. And best of all, the improvements we have made in the IOD95 have made it even stronger.

Construction. We have developed a custom biaxial cloth for the ends and sides of our Optimist. This very special fabric was designed and manufactured specifically for building the Optimist. The directional fibers of the biaxial are far stronger and stiffer than ordinary cloth. Compared to our larger competitors, we spend more than twice the time constructing and finishing out our hull. There are no shortcuts to perfection, our quality comes at the price of time.

Performance. The Intermediate Racer comes with the same hull that won the Nationals, Midwinter's, and World Team Trials. It's fast out of the box and ready to accept advanced racing equipment as your sailor's skills grow.

Optiparts "Quick" Silver. The Optiparts Silver spar set is a true racing rig. It features the pin and plug mast head system for better sail control and easy sail removal. It also upgrades your spar from the Club Rig with a ball bearing hook-in sprit halyard block. This spar set is perfect for beginner racers and for sailing programs which must store their rigs unassembled. The ease with which the sail can be removed via the pin and hook-in block makes rolling the sail a less time consuming task. The result is that your sails will have a longer life.

McLaughlin Blades. Our Club Daggerboard and Rudder with Optiparts Tiller and Extension. The Club blade set is constructed of fiberglass with a high density foam core to be light, durable and stiff.

Omega Practice Sail. The best club sail available anywhere! The cut is identical to the racing sail but, this sail made of a durable 3.8 oz dacron. A great combination speed and durability.

Everything! All you add to our Club Racer is 1 kid and 1 Lifejacket! Your McLaughlin IOD comes with all the lines you'll need from the bow line to the main sheet, we even throw in the class required PFD whistle!

What Options Do I Have?

Sails. Should you wish to purchase a different sail, we can provide you with a large selection from which to choose. Options include the North Club Sail ($170) or a wide variety of racing sails.

Covers and Blade Bags. We carry a variety of covers to suit every need. Our padded bottom covers and tough top covers are the best available. Along with blade bags, these covers are the very best purchase you can make to protect your investment in a new Optimist. A bottom cover can easily double or triple the life of your Optimist. Our blade bag can do the same for your foils, it also serves as carry all for your lifejacket, extra line, sunglasses, sunscreen, and all the other odds and ends that inevitably get left at practice or away regattas.

Dollies. Choose from Optiparts or Seitech Optimist dollies. A good dolly will allow you to transport your boat over concrete, sand and gravel with out damage or assistance. 90% of the damage done to Optimists occurs on land, a bottom cover, blade bag and dolly will eliminate almost all of that damage.

Anything! We will gladly exchange or add any piece of equipment by any manufacturer. Want a Club Racer with McLaughlin Advanced Competition Blades, no problem! Want to upgrade the spars to Optimax MKII, no problem! And all you pay is the difference in our cost!
